Reducing your plastic consumption is all about making better choices for yourself and the environment. It’s not always possible to say no to plastic when some of the things we rely on the most are made out of it, but we can choose to only buy what we need. As technology advances, so do our options for affordable, sustainable alternatives, but till then, here are some things you can do to reduce the amount of plastic you use.

  1. Upgrading your tech is great for staying savvy but also produces a lot of plastic waste. Try using your current tech or mobile device for as long as you can if you don’t really need an upgrade
  2. Buying your groceries in bulk when possible will reduce plastic use in the long run
  3. Use rechargeable batteries and avoid the plastic packaging that comes with having to buy new ones
  4. Most plastic products can be repaired when they break; try mending products first before buying a new one
  1. Look at options to buy refill packs (if made out of eco-friendly material) rather than plastic bottles
  2. Instead of buying CD’s and DVD’s, try downloading or streaming (legally of course!)
  3. Buying second hand, or recycled is a good way to reduce the amount of new plastic being made
  4. Composting your organic waste is a great way to reduce the number of plastic trash bags you use
